We had a good working relationship with our landlords for all these years and supported one another while being separate entities. During the start of the pandemic, ALTO was extremely supportive and suspended our rent payments while we were teaching remotely.
This past summer, ALTO International merged with the International School of the Peninsula (ISTP) to become the Silicon Valley International School (SVIS). Over the summer, it looked like we might be able to return to campus, but due to the COVID-19 Delta variant and staffing issues, we decided to begin the school year online, in hopes of returning to in-person instructions this spring. At the same time, we worked with SVIS management to find a suitable working arrangement.
At the beginning of October, we were notified that it will no longer be possible to be a tenant at SVIS, and that we will need to vacate the premises by the end of October. This means a great number of changes in the short and long term for GASPA.
In the short term, we will continue our Spring semester online.
In the long term, GASPA is in need of a new home for our Saturday School Program beginning Fall 2022 and won’t continue the summer camp program . If you know of a school or other suitable instruction space or are able to make an introduction to a potential space, please let us know! We greatly appreciate your help in the matter.
Vacating the campus of SVIS will require us to remove all of our teaching materials and school supplies, including a 40-foot-long cargo shipping container and two 8x4ft sheds. Therefore, we will be downsizing to prepare for our new home, wherever that may be, as well as selling and donating summer camp and other extra materials. We will be holding a yard sale in October, please stay tuned for more information.
While we were both shocked and saddened by this news this week, please know that our mission to provide high quality German instruction and access to the German language community remains our top priority!
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your continued support!
