Dear Friends of GASPA,
As you’ve heard, Sabine Eisenhauer retired from her positions at the German-American School of Palo Alto. It’s quite difficult to even imagine our wonderful school without her; Sabine was a great Director of Education/Principal, teacher, and – most important to me – a phenomenal mentor.
I left my position as full-time elementary school teacher in Germany in 2010 to join my husband in the Silicon Valley; I joined GASPA shortly thereafter as teacher and have seen many of your children in my classes since. I am incredibly honored and excited to take over the position as Director of Education/Principal, and very thankful for the trust Sabine Eisenhauer and the Board of Directors have put in me as I am resuming work in my new capacity at the beginning of the new school year.
The German-American School of Palo Alto is a sturdy, well-established tree with deep and long roots, and we are all very proud to see this tree blossom by not only providing fun-filled and exciting education, but also a strong community for those surrounding us. It’s now on me to make sure this tree continues to grow, and it is also my plan for it to also get some new strong branches! We are planning to introduce new classes on Saturdays, partnerships with other schools locally and abroad, and new after school programs - we will keep you posted!
Meanwhile, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for having the best management team possible – Pamela Scholz (Director of School Management) and Sibylle Butzlaff (Office Management) – as well as the best teachers, assistant teachers, and Board of Directors. All this, however, would not be possible without our wonderful parents and students. Thank you to all of you!
As much as I am excited about my new position, my true passion continues to be teaching and making language studies a fun and joyful experience, so I will continue to oversee a class on Saturdays. I very much look forward to meeting you all whenever I am not in class.
I will miss Sabine Eisenhauer very much, but I also know she will be around – not just in spirit! I hope I will look back one day and see as many happy students (current or alumni) as today knowing I did the best for our school and families attending our wonderful school.
Let’s start the new journey!
